The RBMK reactor is important because it caused the disaster. Without the reactor it would never have blow up and killed thousands of people.
“ On April 26th 1986, a massive explosion blew the roof off of reactor number four, causing radioactive dust to fly into the air.”
2. Radiation
The radiation was the main problem of the Chernobyl disaster. The radiation killed/hurt many people it also gave many children thyroid cancer and leukemia.
“ Almost 300 people most of them firefighters and plant workers were hospitalized in the first 24 hours. Many were exposed to high doses of radiation, and soon became radioactive themselves.
3. Radiation Meters
The radiation meter helped find find safe spots, and places where their was and wasn't radiation. It also helped tell if food and water was harmful because of radiation.
“ A reading of 3.6 rems was considered high, the health inspector told Brukhanov that the needle was of the chart at 250 rems! That means everyone at the plant has been dosed with high amount of radiation.
